Captivating Photography is now East Adelaide Photography.

It’s still the same great service and gorgeous photography, I’ve just given my little biz a much needed refresh.

NDIS

As an Occupational Therapist and Photographer, I am in a unique position to ensure that photography is accessible to everyone. I provide photography mentoring to NDIS participants and can provide family photography services to families who receive NDIS funding.

Photography education for NDIS participants.

As an Occupational Therapist for the past 15 years, I have worked with thousands of people with various physical and cognitive abilities. My aim as an Occupational Therapist has always been to increase my clients’ abilities and/or access to do the things that are enjoyable or important to them.

Photography has been a passion of mine since learning how to shoot and develop film in high school. This passion lead to me officially launching my business in 2018 and I now specialise in newborn and family photography.

Photography is something that many people enjoy and I find it is a wonderful art-form which encourages gratitude and mindfulness. Practicing photography can have many benefits, particularly on mental health and well-being. Unfortunately not everyone is able to access mainstream photography education and tuition.

I believe that photography, and it's therapeutic benefits should be accessible to all.

That's why I have started providing face to face private lessons to NDIS participants throughout Adelaide.

Given that I am an Occupational Therapist, all tuition will inherently involve Occupational Therapy with a focus on building capacity, self-efficacy, and increased community participation.

The sessions will be tailored to the participant's skills and abilities and can include but is not limited to:

  • Learning how to use a DSLR/Mirrorless camera in manual mode.

  • Learning how to take better photos using a phone or digital camera.

  • Exploring composition, depth of field and various photographic techniques.

  • Photographing various subjects and landscapes (directed by the participant’s interests).

  • Editing techniques in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

  • Printing photos on various mediums.

  • Entering photographic awards and competitions.

  • Assistance to set up a photography business.

One off workshops and regular sessions are available.

The participant does not need to own a camera or computer. These can be provided to the participant for use during the session(s).

Sessions can occur in the community or the participant's home.

Even though the photos on this website are of family photoshoots, I do have skills and interests in other areas of photography such as architecture, landscape, macro and wildlife photography. Photography tuition will be tailored to the participant and we can work on whatever genre interests them most.

Using NDIS Funding for a family photoshoots

If you have a child or family member in receipt of NDIS , in many cases, this funding can be used for a family photoshoot. If you have a plan manager, I can easily issue an invoice to request funding.

Most photographers don’t have experience working with clients who have disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing issues.

Along with being a photographer I am also a practicing Occupational Therapist and I have over 15 years experience working with clients who live with various conditions.

I will work with you and spend a lot of time with you before the photoshoot to create an inclusive and comfortable environment for your child/family member who receives NDIS funding. The photoshoot will take place in a location that they love and at a time of day when they are usually most relaxed. I will learn about their likes, dislikes, triggers and calming strategies. We will take it at their pace and follow their lead. There will be no rushing or forcing them. I will work with them and with you to ensure it is an enjoyable experience for you all.

Family photoshoots can be a time of joy and bonding between family members, and having the beautiful photos proudly displayed in your home can increase children’s self-esteem and their sense of belonging.

Many people with disabilities are very visual and seeing themselves in a family photo makes them feel proud, loved and valued.

Family photoshoots can fit under various NDIS funding categories such as “Health and wellbeing”, “Relationships” and “Social and community participation”.

Having a family photoshoot and having the photos on display in your home can help to achieve the following goals:

  • Improved wellbeing by increasing feelings of confidence, building self-esteem and strengthening the connection between family members.

  • Building relationships with family members by seeing themselves in photos with their family members, seeing their family as a unit and that they belong as a part of that family unit. The photos can be used as visual reminders to reinforce their relationship with each member of their family.

  • Increasing social and community participation by having the photoshoot with family members at a location within the community. Seeing the photos can improve their understanding of their place within their family and their community. Seeing the photos can build confidence and self-efficacy which may further improve social and community participation.

Please feel free to get in touch to chat more about my services and to obtain the details of a special package exclusively for NDIS participants.
